It’s the height of the roaring 20’s. It is a time of unprecedented prosperity and prohibition. Mr. Pappy Weller has accumulated more than his fair share of wealth—most of it earned in an unscrupulous manner. In the business of operating his speakeasy, he has stolen, blackmailed, cheated, and lied—and now he’s dead.
He was murdered somewhere on his multi-million-dollar estate, and because of his misdeeds and shady dealings, he has no small list of enemies. The list has been narrowed down to 14 people who have questionable alibis. All 14 had the means and the motive to commit the crime.
It is your job to discover who committed the murder, where they did it, and what they did it with. You will do this by searching for cards throughout the playing area and marking them off your case file.
The host has the solution envelope containing the cards with the actual suspect, location, and weapon that were involved in the murder. That means when you find a suspect, weapon, or location card, these cards will NOT be found in the solution envelope, and they can be eliminated as murder possibilities on your file case card.
Along the way, you will also find gameplay cards that will allow you to interact with other players in different ways. These cards permit you to see what cards they have and eliminate each from your list. Each card has its’ own set of rules as described on the card. You may end up doing a little bribery or gambling, or perhaps even a little blackmail. You might form an alliance or act as law enforcement to stop all the shady deals. You never know what cards you’ll find—but use these cards wisely and you may be the first to discover the solution and win the game!
If you believe you have the solution - grab the “Make An Accusation” card and announce your findings. If you are right—you win. If you are wrong, you are forbidden to make another accusation for 10 minutes.
Check out this video to learn more about the party and how to play the Clued In Murder Mystery Party @ The Speakeasy! (PS - There's no audio so just read along and press pause if you need more time to read each frame)
The game itself is an escape room murder mystery mash up where players dress and act as a player in a role play combined with a scavenger hunt to look for clue cards throughout the crime sceme based on the board game Clue. The theme is set in a 20's Speakeasy with glamorous gals, greedy guys and classy cocktails served in the height of the roaring 20's. The winner of the game receives a prize sure to be the bees knees and envy of their fellow suspects.
Part of the fun is playing the part. You will be assigned a role with your invitation and will be able to be familiar with your character and the others before arriving by reading through their descriptions. We will also be introducing everyone and their characters on the night of the party. Feel free to dress up as much or as little as you would like. We also have costume pieces like hats, gloves, vests and jewelry for each character here in case you just want to show up as you are. We want you to have fun and not worry about anything other than joining the party!
Even though you don't have to bring anything, we find that most people feel better bringing something to contribute so if you are one of those people, feel free to bring a bottle of your choice or something for everyone to snack on like a dessert or appetizer.
His birth name was Rip Weller, Pappy Weller’s only child. Rip is known for getting wasted and his weakness for the ponies. He can usually be found at the local track, gambling and drinking away his trust. When Mr. Weller discovered just how much his reckless son had lost, he froze his trust fund. When cut off, Rip became enraged. He refused to speak to his father, but it is well known that if Mr. Weller died, his son would inherit all.
Goldie Fawn has never met a wallet she didn’t like, and Mr. Weller’s was her favorite. She has been cozying up to him for over a year in hopes of receiving a marriage proposal. Last week, the maid overheard Mr. Weller end it with Goldie Fawn, confessing that he had fallen for another and planned to marry her. Goldie stormed out, screaming about how he would rue the day he rejected her.
It has been said that rich and handsome Dominic DiCaprio has never met a woman he couldn’t charm— or a heart he couldn’t break. One of those broken hearts was Goldie Fawn, who he courted over a year ago. When he ended it, she left with a secret DiCaprio wouldn’t want anyone else to know. Goldie Fawn revealed his secret to her next boyfriend, Pappy Weller. Pappy had been using that secret to blackmail Mr. DiCaprio for the past eight months.
Scarlett Fauxhansen knew she was a coveted prize among the eligible bachelors in town and she loved all the benefits of being desired. She had turned down dozens of proposals in her 28 years. That was until Mr. Weller came along. His adoration was coated in diamonds and gold - her heart was sold. The night after he proposed she discovered him with another woman, Miss Goldie Fawn, and Scarlett saw red—blood red.
Alfred Tennyworth has worked for Mr. Weller for over 25 years. Three days before Mr. Weller was murdered, he fired Mr. Tennyworth for no reason other than Mr. Weller’s new fiancée, Scarlett Fauxhansen, wished to hire new and younger staff. Mr. Tennyworth was not even offered severance pay. The butler swore he would not let Mr. Weller get away with treating him like this.
Alice White has been working for Mr. Weller for the past six years. Though she is not fond of Mr. Weller, she has become quite smitten with his associate, Mr. Clark Capone. She and Clark plan to marry and start a family of their own, and that costs money. When she learns that Mr. Weller refused to give Clark his well-deserved “raise”, she swore she would make Weller pay one way or another.
Clark Capone was paid well by Mr. Weller to “investigate people of interest” and bring the “dirt” back to Mr. Weller. Over the years, his findings gave Mr. Weller the knowledge needed to blackmail a lot of money out of his victims, and Capone has only received a tiny piece of that pie. He demanded more money for his services, only to have Mr. Weller laugh in his face. Clark vowed to turn the tables if it was the last thing he did.
Babs Blackheart had been a very fortunate widow, three times over. Though no one could ever prove foul play, after each of her husband’s demise, she would take her fortune and move on to a new town, leaving her past behind. Now she had her heart set on Billy Buffett - but Mr. Weller had learned of her past and had threatened to tell his business partner everything - unless she could afford the high cost of his silence.
Billy Buffett is known as Mr. Weller’s trusted business partner. He has helped launder Mr. Weller’s money for the past decade. Mr. Buffett felt business with Pappy was becoming too high-risk. Pappy threatened to ruin him and his family when Billy told him he wanted out. Mr. Buffett is not the kind of man you threaten.
Madame Mysfortune has been Mr. Weller’s astrological advisor and spiritual medium for years - ever since she helped him get in contact with his diseased, bloodhound “Dutchess”. Madame Mysfortune predicted Mr. Weller’s upcoming demise just two weeks before his murder. Is she the real thing or just the real killer?
Bonny and Clyde Finster were two con artists madly in love since they were teenagers. For the last 6 months, the duo has been working a long con against Mr. Weller - only to have him smugly confess that he has been on to them since the beginning. “It was entertaining for a while,” Mr. Weller laughed, “but now I’m bored with the two of you.” The enraged lover’s egos couldn’t take being mocked. He was just a mark, but now it was personal. Did they get the last laugh after all?
Gatsby Greenfield is a renowned artist, and seeker of the extraordinaire. Vain Mr. Weller hired Mr. Greenfield to sculpt a life-size statue of him. When the completed statue was revealed, an outraged Mr. Weller called his sculpture “the work of an overrated amateur”. Threats were made and Gatsby was escorted off the property, but not before vowing to teach Gatsby a lesson in art appreciation he soon wouldn’t forget.
Ginny Tonic has had a bitter taste in her mouth for Pappy Weller since she heard through the grapevine that he had been associating with unsavory people and women of questionable character in a neighborhood that she feels should be maintained to a much higher standard of behavior. Ms. Tonic is not one that Mr. Weller mixed well with.
